Antoine WATTEAU France (1684 - 1721)

Antoine Watteau was born in Valenciennes, a town which until recently had been Flemish rather than French. Watteau was deeply influenced by Rubens, and also by the Venetian masters. He is celebrated as a painter of fêtes galantes.
