Maria-Helena Vieira da Silva was born in Lisbon, Portugal but became naturalized French in 1928. She lived and worked in Paris but accepted commissions for murals and paintings in Portugal and Brazil. As a leading member of the School of Paris artists she became one of the most important abstract artists in Europe and did much to further the appreciation of women artists. Her works hang in museums world-wide
