Notes
Charles Amand Durand, (1831-1905) is recognized and praised for accomplishing the difficult task of renewing original copper plate designs made by Rembrandt. It is by Amand that many of Rembrandt's works were saved. He also restored plates by Albrecht Durer, Beham, and other various Old Masters from the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries. The task started when the main curator of the Louvre gave Amand Durand the important mission of restoring the worn-down and fragile engravings made by Rembrandt. This is a printing from the Amand Durand plates. This Hand-pulled-Etching is a printing from the re-worked original copper Rembrandt plates by Amand-Durand (1831-1905) The following etchings are after Rembrandt by Amand-Durand. Amand-Durand re-engraved Rembrandt's etchings from the original first and second state original etchings. Every detail is captured, including Rembrandt's signature and date in a lot of the works. On the back, each piece carries the Bartsch reference number. Amand-Durand original copper plates were obtained by the French book publishing family, DOMINIQUE VINCENT et Cie. The Bibliothèque Nationale and the Louvre Museum in Paris had been acquiring these etchings
